What is Art Therapy?

Art therapy is for all ages!

For individuals, couples, families, or groups.

Art therapy uses drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, photography etc.

You do not need to be an artist to benefit from art therapy.

You do not need to be creative or have any art skills to participate in art therapy – in fact, the less art skills you have, the better!

You will not be taking home artwork to frame and hang on your wall.

Unlike an art class, art therapy is not focused on creating a well-composed, beautiful artwork. Art therapists are more interested in the process:
  • what you experience
  • what thoughts arise when interacting with the art materials
  • what meaning your image holds
  • what is being expressed by your subconscious
You will be using art materials to explore your feelings and thoughts. This process can assist you to:
  • Improve self-awareness
  • Gain new perspective on challenges you have been facing
  • Relieve stress
  • Decrease depression and anxiety
  • Identify goals
  • Tap into your inner strengths to accomplish your goals
